  • Rules by Sean Fitzpatrick
  • GeoSpatial CMS in Drupal 7 by Brandon Morrison

Sean Fitzpatrick builds Drupal websites for libraries and library-related organizations at LISHost. Falling into this position from a background in librarianship, marketing, publishing, journalism, and online content strategy, Sean has found Drupal to be the perfect toolkit for building great sites without a lot of programming. The Rules module plays a big role in almost all of his projects because it's a means to create highly customized, conditional functionality that he'd otherwise have to write a bunch of custom code to attain.

Brandon Morrison has never been much of a developer, in the strictest since of the word. Usually, development has been a means to an end to research something more interesting. Right now, that interest is in mapping and visual storytelling. Brandon currently works as a web developer for DJ Case and Associates in Mishawaka, IN, and is a co-maintainer for the Geofield and Openlayers modules.

The Chicago Drupal Meet Up Group is proud to present at least two featured presentations about the hottest Drupal topics each month. We have room for 75 people and all skill levels are welcomed. If you are brand new to Drupal we recommend attending one of our free monthly training workshops.

Sean Fitzpatrick will be presenting....Rules....The Rules module allows site administrators defining actions that occur on conditional events. It's one module that can potentially do the work of a lot of little modules, simplifying the module list and preventing the need for custom code. Using Rules can make site development quicker, more flexible, more stable, and easier for developers and the clients to maintain later. This presentation will demonstrate some example use cases, show what's new for Drupal 7, demonstrate how to build Rules, and show how Rules compares to other tools that accomplish similar tasks.

Brandon Morrison will be presenting....The state of mapping and the GeoSpatial CMS in Drupal 7 - We'll take a quick look at the history of mapping in the Drupal community, from Location , GMap, and Geo, and do a demo of the Geofield module. We'll also talk about interesting projects outside of Drupal like Tilemill which can compliment current best practices. Afterwards, we'll talk about current shortcomings with the current stack and how you can help make Drupal a true GeoSpatial CMS.
