Well, the Chicago Drupal Meet Up Group's August event saw the worst weather of the month and in our CDMUG history. We had some seriously wicked weather, the highest measured winds I heard were 74 mph gust near Wrigley Field. Here's a link to a few (pictures) from the storm. However, we still had a excellent event with 12 brave and hard core drupalers attending. We also had 2 attend on the CDMUG Chat - (we make this available to individuals who are unable to physically attend the meet up - this allows them to participate remotely, it also helped out b/c of the storm).
The conversations (<-- please review) were varied and the skill levels of attendees were wide. I'd say around 3-4 advanced developers, 1-2 advanced theme guru's, 2-3 intermediate Drupal admin users, a few more all-around familiar with PHP / code hackers, and 3-4 noobies wanting to learn more about the Drupal CMS. We also had 2 attendees that were looking to hire Drupal developers... :-) (CDMUG is a great local resource - please feel free to attend an event).
About 90 minutes into the meet up we went around the room and did introductions. This was a good exercise and we might want to try this earlier in the event, maybe 30 min. after everyone arrives and gets settled. Also we didn't demonstrate the Drupal 6 install or 5.2 install because of the active discussions. Maybe next time we could do a Drupal install after the introductions exercise - then the user group could launch into our traditional style of an unstructured - who needs help - Drupal test drives, one on one help, etc... meeting.
The flow of the meeting went well, the projector wasn't used as much for this meet up. The attendees seemed to be a bit more mobile - walking around the room engaging with each other in a Questions and Answers format.
