Greneral CDMUG Discussion

Great Drupal Camp Chicago 2008!

leoklein's picture

I'd like to complement Kyle, Matt and the rest of the CDMUG team responsible for organizing the Drupal Camp.

I walked into the venue and saw all of those people there -- at all of those sessions taking place simultaneously -- and I was flabbergasted!

It really was an event worthy both of the topic and of the city -- a blockbuster.

WONDERFUL WORLD OF DRUPAL MODULES (5/23)

Save the Date: Friday, 5/23 (1:30p-3:00p); Burnham Hall 308.

This is the 2nd in a series of talks by Leo Klein on the popular content management system Drupal.

Leo will discuss some of Drupal's most important modules, what they do and how to use them. Remember, in Drupal, it's the Modules that provide all the great features - so this ought to be a worthwhile discussion.

freetard : A derogatory term aimed at zealous open-source proponents and their ilk.

So what about the "free economics" of Drupal's Open Source CMS: Free: The Past and Future of a Radical Price

IRC/online meetups

matthew's picture

I think #cdmug on freenode should be our official chat channel. I am one of those people who is on IRC 24.7 either way. So joining a new channel is not a problem. While it would be cool to have people idel in the channel to help with issues. I think it would be even better to have online meetings. Maybe we can have an online meetup every 2 weeks and a real meeutp every other 2 weeks.

The new version of cdmug.org will have a new chat system other than phpfreechat. I will want to focus on opening #cdmug on freenode @ within cdmug.org in future site versions.

Rules

matthew's picture

1. Do not attend CDMUG events unless you have RSVP'd @ drupal.meetup . If you are not on the RSVP list, DO NOT attend the event. We have been relaxed about this in the past, but too many people took advantage. onShore can barley hold 15 people. Any additional spaces are reserved for onShore employees. People who have not RSVP'd will be turned away.

2. Do not RSVP for events you will not attend. Save room for dedicated Drupalers and the Chicago Open Source community.

Midwest Drupal Camps

tourguide's picture

We're starting to plan a Chicago Drupal Camp for the spring. This will be a larger and more marketed event then CDMUG's monthly meetups, with a planned agenda for the day. Any ideas? We're on the hunt for a great location and sponsors~!

Following my work in Colombia

Tim Nafziger's picture

Some of you asked me at the December meet up where you could read about my work with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Colombia over the next 6 weeks. Here's the blog where I'll be posting weekly updates:

http://www.themennonite.org/bloggers/timjn/

I'll see you all in February (provided the meetup is after the 17th, otherwise I see'll you in March)

Moving Thursdays to Tuesdays

matthew's picture

At least for the next few months, CDMUG events will be held on Tuesday nights, not Thursdays.

I am stuck taking a required class at school that is only offered on Thursday nights.
We think this will be a good way to see if a change in the schedule will be positive or negative experience for the group. If you have any suggestions for other date/times for events, please let us know in the forums.
